7:30pm - Hondo Come and spend the end of the old year by attending the service at the Betsuin and ringing in the new year.

Rev. Kodani will be giving a special lecture on Jan. 15, on Horaku (Buddhist Music): the Sounds of the Buddha-Dharma, from 4:30 PM co-sponsored with San Jose Taiko and a requested donation of $5.00 per person.

As part of our Eitaikyo service, our guest speaker was Dr. Nobuo Haneda. He is the director of the Maida Center in Berkeley, California. He discussed the difference how Buddhist teachers read Buddhist text, one way being general/objective and the other being subjective/experiential. Here is the video of his Dharma talk.

About the San Jose Buddhist Church Betsuin
Founded in 1902, San Jose Buddhist Church Betsuin (SJBCB) is a Temple of the Jodo Shinshu Nishi Hongwanji (Japanese | English) tradition of Buddhism. Jodo Shinshu began over 800 years ago in Japan, and is still headquarted in Kyoto. The Nishi Hongwanji main Temple provides leadership worldwide for the tradition. SJBCB is a member of the Buddhist Churches of America (BCA) and part of the Coast District.
We are located in the Japantown area of downtown San Jose. Our primary focus is on following the path to enlightenment by preserving faith the Three Treasures: Dharma (the teachings), Sangha (the people), and Buddha (the Enlightened One).
