Speed Is Your Friend - An interesting irony of off-road riding is that you often have more control and a better chance to avoid obstacles if you bring a little extra speed into a tricky section of trail. The tendency is to slam on the brakes when the trail looks scary. But, if you slow too much, you lose momentum, making it harder to balance and more difficult to negotiate trail hazards. Always ride at a comfortable and safe speed. But, if you notice that you're often stalling out and having to put a foot down, try going slightly faster and see if those tricky spots don't get easier. Consider riding a challenging stretch a few times, too, to get the hang of it, which is a good way to build confidence and improve your skills.
