Our Books

We try to be very careful about accurate descriptions of listed books. Unless otherwise described, all books are in very good or better antiquarian condition. Private bookplates and former owners' signatures are not generally noted. Clean copies from libraries or other institutional collections are always noted as "ex libris," which will signify the presence of former library stamps, card pockets, or call numbers in any combination.

They will, however, always be internally clean, unless noted to the contrary. Books may be returned within five days of receipt for any reason. We would appreciate advance notification of any returned books, which must be shipped back postpaid and insured.

The shop is located in the East Bay region of the San Francisco Bay Area, about two miles north of Berkeley. Drivers may exit at Potrero Avenue off Interstate 80, proceed east two blocks on Potrero Avenue and immediately turn left unto Kearney Street. The shop is also only two blocks south of the Del Norte BART station

Shop hours are: Monday-Saturday, 9:00 a.m.- 4:30 p.m. (Pacific Coast time) or by appointment at other times.

We have a stock of about 55,000 carefully chosen volumes having lasting research value or collectible interest. Nearly all subject areas are represented, but we are especially strong in classical studies, mediaeval studies, philosophy, the history of religion, European history, Americana, linguistics, history of science, art history, music, and foreign language books. Also present are books on Asia, Africa, the Pacific region, literary criticism, economics, royalty, book and library history, natural history, photography, decorative arts, military and naval history, and other fields

Catalogues and subject lists are always being generated in various subject fields. You may receive appropriate lists via first-class mail or through this website. Contact us about your interests or provide desiderata lists of titles which you are seeking.
