Jerry L. Steering is a 1977 graduate of the State University of New York at Brockport, and a 1984 graduate of the University of Georgia School of Law, in Athens, Georgia. Mr. Steering is also a published legal scholar; "Accomplice Accusations In The Criminal Process: The Application Of Sixth Amendment Tests For The Reliability Of Hearsay Evidence To Probable Cause Determinations, 16 Rutgers Law Journal 869 (1985).
After graduating from law school, Mr. Steering was in general law practice in Athens, Georgia, for almost two years, before moving to Orange County, California, in 1986. In 1986 Mr. Steering became a member of the State Bar of California. Since that time, he has been engaged in several areas of law practice, including:
Prosecuting federal civil rights actions against police officers and other government officials, for civil police misconduct and other government misconduct;
Defending criminal cases, including domestic violence cases; many of which involve issues of criminal police misconduct and other constitutional issues;
General civil trial practice; such as personal injury cases and other tort actions, business litigation, and other civil matters;
Mr. Steering is married to Ruth Steering, who is the law firms office manager. They have three children: David, Elizabeth and Phillip.
