Approach to Psychotherapy
My warmth, directness, and sense of humor make it easy to
establish a professional relationship of safety, acceptance, and openness. My clients report feeling that I really understand them.
They are appreciative that I keep them on task and am honest and direct in my feedback.
We will begin therapy by exploring in detail what is troubling you
(the client), and what you hope to gain from psychotherapy. Within the first sessions, I will be giving you feedback to help clarify and define problem areas. Then together we will set up specific goals for treatment and an initial plan to meet those goals.
Therapy is successful when the desired changes occur in feelings, beliefs, and behaviors. The first step to change is understanding why you feel and act the way you do. Often, to achieve this understanding we must uncover longstanding emotional pain and longing that are now manifested in self-defeating beliefs and behaviors
Using approaches from humanistic, cognitive behavioral, and psychodynamic theories of psychotherapy, we begin to heal emotional injuries and to substitute more constructive and realistic self attitudes and behaviors.
