Grapevine viruses are field-transmitted by pests from infected vines to healthy vines such as glassy-winged sharpshooters, nematodes, mealy bugs. Due to the wide presence of these pests in California vineyards, certified nursery stocks may not guarantee virus-free vineyards. Therefore, it is crucial for growers and management companies to regularly and consistently screen and survey their vineyards for the presence of common grapevine viruses to determine the extent of their spread and the health status of their vines.
