EPA's new Hydrogeomorphic Method manual for vernal pools of Southern California
In 2009, Balance Hydrologics partnered with the USFWS and local ranchers in the Upper Klamath Basin to restore fish passage to several miles of pristine habitat along Five-Mile Creek. The project is showcased on the USGS Multimedia Gallery. We encourage you to spend a few minutes to check it out.
Balance Hydrologics staff co-authored EPA's new Hydrogeomorphic Method manual for vernal pools of Southern California, working with researchers at SDSU and USD. The manual serves as the preferred federal method for quantifying vernal pool functions. It can be applied to evaluating the quality of pools, developing management programs, measuring damage and quantifying the effectiveness of restoration. (HTML/PDF)
