Association for Retarded Citizens-Long Beach, a 501 (c) 3 Non-Profit Organization, was originally established in 1952 as a school by a group of parents who wanted to provide special education for their children with mental retardation. The school went on to become a center based program, Hillside Enterprises, in 1968 serving all age groups providing vocational training in addition to language and motor skill development.
Today, the Association is a strong organization serving the Long Beach and Greater Long Beach area operating five different programs. The non-profit organization has become an agent for change and a voice in the community for the rights and interests of people with mental retardation.

Association for Retarded Citizens-Long Beach is committed to securing for all people with intellectual disabilities the opportunity to choose and realize their goals of where and how they learn, live, work and play...
