Air Quality Rules Change for Agriculture
The air quality in the San Joaquin Valley has been re-designated as Extreme nonattainment for ozone by the EPA. Because of this new designation, the San Joaquin Air Pollution Control District has had to lower the permitting limit for all agricultural industries. For dairies with 175 cows or more or anyone farming 100 acres or more contiguous acres, not currently covered by a CMP, may need to obtain an Air District Permit. You can check online at Air District website to see if you need to submit a permit. Permit applications must be submitted to the District by December 10, 2010. In addition to these changes, the District has also updated the Rule 4570 pertaining to reducing VOC emissions. All dairies will be required to apply for or update their existing mitigation measures. CDQAP anticipates holding meetings in February and March 2011. Rule 4570 Applications are due by April 21, 2011.
