Aplussurvival.com gave me hope that there really are sellers out there who do actually understand how to run a business: CUSTOMERS FIRST. In these days of cold detatched distant transactions, Aplussurvival.com made me feel I mattered because they cared enough to follow selling rules and common curtousy above and beyond the norm. I am a customer for life because Aplussurvival.com will always be there for me when I need something and I can shop without a care knowing that I'm taken care of. I'm a seller also and just hope I treat my customers with the level of service Aplussurvival.com does time after time. Thanks Guys!!! -Jim from Ohio

Why Buy a Survival Kit?
First off and most importantly, there are many unexpected events that happen in our lives. Being prepared is your insurance plan for the unexpected. Hundreds of thousands of people have been put in the situation of a natural disaster. Whether being evacuated with only minutes to collect the basic necessities, or not being able to leave home at all, we all should be prepared to survive in any circumstance. Without food, water, and some other vital items, survival can be very difficult if not impossible.

I propose a question to you in regards to health insurance, car insurance, life insurance, warranties and security systems. How much do you spend each month for these? Probably about $200 a month for health insurance, about $100 a month for car insurance, we will average about $30 a month for life insurance, and we wont even add the warranties and security systems. This totals about $330.00 per month for just in case something bad happens or there is an accident. When you buy a good survival kit like the kits we offer at A Plus Survival, it only costs you about $2.00 per month per person for our Deluxe kits.

#1 - The first thing to do to get you and your family prepared is to get a Survival Kit. The most important thing in your kit is fresh water, food and clean air. There are many things that can be added to your kit to make it fit your needs and for comfort. Some of the more vital items are listed below.

Water Minimum one gallon per day per person for drinking and sanitation. We recommend having at least one month supply.
Non-perishable or long life food. We recommend at least a one month supply.
Food and water for your pets.
Hand crank or battery operated radio with NOAA, AM/FM and flashlight.
First aid kit

Plastic sheeting or tent for emergency shelter.
Duct tape for sealing cracks in doorways and windows, and the hundreds of other purposes it can fulfill.
Important family documents such as insurance policies, identification and bank account records in a waterproof portable container.
Cash or travelers checks and change for pay phones (cell phones may not work)
Items for special needs such as prescriptions, insulin, medications, diapers, baby formula, bottles, powdered milk, etc.
Reading glasses or contact lenses.

Disaster preparedness book and first aid book
Sleeping bag or warm blanket for each person, add more if you live in cold climates.
Complete change of clothing including underwear, long sleeved shirt, pants, and sturdy comfortable shoes that are already broken in. Add jackets and thermal underwear if you live in cold climates.
Household bleach for disinfection and water purification. 10% chlorine bleach for disinfection, and 8 drops per gallon of water for purification. Do not use scented, color safe or bleach with added cleaners.

Feminine supplies and personal hygiene items
Mess kits, paper dishes, drinking glasses, paper towels and utensils.
Paper and pencil
Books, puzzles, games and other activities for children.
Consider having two kits, one for home survival and another smaller light weight version for when you must leave in a hurry.

The list above is a very basic list and I will discuss more items you may want to include later. We offer very comprehensive kits that range from Basic, Deluxe, Ultimate, Car, Pet, Child and Wilderness and then you can add any additional items you may like it to have.

#2 Make an emergency plan for you and your family. Plan ahead and discuss as a group what you will do in different kinds of emergencies. You should plan contact arrangements, as well as meeting places in case phones are not working. Remember to stay safe and only leave if it is safe, otherwise stay or go where you are the safest. Consider having an out of town family member to be the one everyone will contact and then also have a back-up person. Listen to the radio, television or internet to access the situation and to listen for emergency instructions.

Your plan should include different options, one very important decision you will need to make is to stay in home and bunker down or to leave and get out of the area of disaster. Staying in home and creating a barrier from potentially contaminated air and debris can be a vital survival tool. If you choose to do this, make sure all family and pets are inside and then close and lock all doors and windows, close air vents and replace or close fireplace dampers. Immediately turn off all air conditioning, forced air heating systems, exhaust fans and clothes dryers. Pick a room with few windows and doors and go inside with family and pets along with your emergency survival kit. Seal all windows, doors and vents with the plastic and duct tape. Remember that this is only a temporary fix to the problem though, depending on the size of the room and how many people are inside, the oxygen will soon run out. You can prepare for this by having an oxygen tank available to replenish the area. Wait until it is safe or until you hear that all is okay by emergency management officials.

If your plan is to leave, you should already know where your destination options are and how much food, water and gas for your car you should need. Always keep your gas tank in your car half full so at any time you would be able to just go with no stops needed. Also having an emergency survival kit in the car at all times will save some of the time it will take to get on the road and off to a safer place. Minutes can make a big difference in the time of an emergency. Be prepared and you will have a much better chance of survival. While driving, if you believe the air to be contaminated, keep all windows and vents shut with the forced air system off. Keep the radio on an emergency broadcast channel to stay updated on the situation. Make sure you know your childrens school emergency plan as well as the emergency plan for at work. In addition, having a community emergency plan is also a great idea so you can keep your neighbors safe and all help each other.

Many people dont think about there pets when planning for an emergency. Pet Emergency Kits are a great way to keep your pet safe. Things to include in your Pet Survival Kit are as follows:

Important Documents and Pictures of you and your pet
Sanitary Supplies Bleach, Towels, Cat Litter, Newspaper and Trash Bags
Treats, Toys and Bedding

Keep in mind to know where you will go and if they will allow pets inside before you get there. Also, know where to get Emergency Medical treatment if it was needed and keep the information in the emergency kit. Stickers are available to notify officials of a pet inside your home in case of fire or evacuation, and be prepared to write evacuated on the sticker if you had time to get the animals out already.
