The Grey Whale Inn, built in 1915 by the Union Lumber Company offers vacation lodging amidst comfort and laid back Mendocino Coast elegance. The Inn, a classic architecture of old-growth redwood, is a premier Bed and Breakfast in historic downtown Fort Bragg. Within walking distance of two Zagat top-rated restaurants, the internationally award winning North Coast Brewery, Glass Beach, the Skunk Train, art galleries, a culinary center, and ,the historic downtown shopping area. Experience the real Mendocino personality at the Grey Whale Inn.
The Grey Whale Inn although very spacious, gives one the feeling of intimacy. With only 13 accommodations spread over three floors, a small craftsman dining area with lovely fireplace and lots of public areas spread throughout the Inn and gardens, it’s quiet, private and best of all just plain comfortable. No regal stuffiness here. It’s just good, old fashion Coast hospitality with a little Mendocino quirkiness thrown in. Like the fact that it started life as the orginal Fort Bragg hospital. Today only its spaciousness and back entrance ramps hint at its former life.
TESTIMONIALS from our guests...
"The Grey Whale Inn is one of the best places to stay in Fort Bragg. I would recommend the Grey Whale Inn for its cozy rooms and beautiful garden as well as being close to the school.” Matt Samuelson (Chef teacher at Living Light school)
"I was a student at the Living Light Culinary Arts Institute and had heard that the Grey Whale was a great place to stay. The rumor was true! The Inn itself is stunning and is perfectly located - barely a 5 minute walk to the school and town. There are two large common areas and the rooms are beautifully decorated as well as a delectable vegetable garden. I would highly recommend Living Light students stay at the Grey Whale especially as the kitchen will soon be accessible and "raw-friendly"! The lovely owner, Mike, who makes you feel right at home, has special rates for LL students. What else could one ask for?” Joy Asfour
